Outdoor Chat > What is Your Favorite Fall Activity?

Fall might be the best time of the year if you are an outdoor person. For myself, I tend to jump back and forth from the tree stand to the boat. Fall means extra fat muskies and walleyes, but it is sure hard to beat a quiet evening in the tree stand observing nature and having a chance at that next big buck. I guess I am torn between the two.

What is your favorite fall activity?

Here, Here Travis, but I tend to be in the woods from opener til the end, which is 2 weeks along the north shore of MN. Nothing can teach a hunter more than spending time in the woods observing your surroundings. Deer is at the top of my list, followed by bear and then along to the trapping season, which sadly enough is a dwindeling sport. The bottom line is that we need to get more young people involved to keep our sport(s) healthy for us and the wildlife.

I couldn't agree with you more. Getting those young children involved in our outdoor sports is very important. I try my best to teach and encourage whenever possible. I actually mentor for a child, and I take him with me whenever possible. Sadly though, he enjoys the technology world and games as much as the next child. I find that trying different twists to the sport seem to get him excited and he loves the 4-wheelers.

Congrats for hunting. I set some traps this year as well. My uncles introduced me to that when I was very young, and it is a great sport that gets very little attention. I love it. Thanks for sharing.

My fav fall activity.
First and formost we do a youth waterfowl hunt with anywhere from 10 to 20 kids from 12-15yrs old.'
A buddie owns the hunting land with open water,,marsh and wild rice,,what more would you want for duck hunting.
We invite parents to bring the kids up for a weekend camping trip and hunt where we do all the work.
The only thing the kids need is a Hunter Saftey cert and thats it.
If they dont have a firearm we will have one for them,,if they dont have a tent we will share ours with them,
We want to introduce safe and fun hunting and camping to the kids with deep fried turkey,,smores and of course ducks.
we try and have two to three kids per blind with adult and most times a dog.
The adults do all the work and the kids do all the shooting,,No Adults are allowed to hunt during this hunt.
Thats what i look fwd to the most in the fall.
Besides that you will find me in a tree stand.

That sounds like a blast, and I'm sure the children just love it. My hat is off to you and your group for making a difference. Giving children that opportunity is something they will remember forever, and will certainly have an impact on their lives forever. Thank you!
